Chessley

Chessley Mac Powell came to me on September 26th, 2007.  He was abandoned in Missouri we think and came to Colorado to a foster family.  The photo attached is from his first day with me.  He was incredibly vocal and 'talked' to me daily.  He was so grateful and cuddly with me from the start. He just wanted a family.

Chess gave me so much joy. He was so sweet and submissive. He was my happy boy, thankful for his dad and his big sister. He brought a tenderness to my life that I had not seen before.  He loved to play and snuggle with us.

He got sick with a hip problem in March of 2010 and didn't improve.  He was losing his body functions and strength rapidly until the neurologist said he probably wouldn't get better and I had to make the decision to euthanize him.

Our last day was filled with love and snuggles. Chessley and I chose to end things on our terms and I was the last touch, sound and love that he felt.

I will hold that moment close to my heart forever.
